A French officer in Aqaba during World War I

Rare color photo of Warrant Officer Chatellain, a French non-commissioned officer who served in Aqaba, a strategic Red Sea port in Arabia (now Jordan). The photo was taken in 1918 by Paul Castelnau, a French photographer who documented the war. Aqaba was captured by the Arab forces led by Sherif Nasir and Auda abu Tayi, with the help of T. E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia") in 1917.
